The all-new range of Samsung TVs

The Korean tech giant is leaving nothing to chance this year, with an update to all of its flagship TVs for 2024.

OLED TVS

Just a few years ago, the idea that Samsung would consider producing an OLED TV seemed completely absurd. However, the progress made since then is remarkable - the manufacturer is also behind the manufacture of the panel found on the Sony A95L series; considered the most efficient to date. 2024 represents an equally significant milestone for Samsung, as the company prepares to bring three OLED models to market, underscoring its commitment to innovation and excellence in display technology .

The S95D and S90D, successors to the highly successful S95C and S90C, represent Samsung's clear intention to establish itself at the top of the OLED TV market with the introduction of a third-generation QD-OLED panel.

These models stand out for a notable improvement in their brightness, offering a 20% increase compared to their predecessors. This advancement is the result of the use of a sophisticated 3rd generation QD-OLED panel, capable of reaching up to 3000 nits of peak brightness.

A notable innovation of the S95D model is its new anti-glare technology, dubbed “Anti-Glare OLED Technology”, which largely redefines expectations in terms of efficiency; the result is simply breathtaking. This advance promises to make it the most efficient television, in any environment.

When it comes to design, the Samsung S95D represents a significant step forward, adopting an even slimmer and sleeker profile than the S95C. Its ultra-thin 11mm profile highlights a contemporary and clean aesthetic, enhancing its appeal and sophistication further.

On the other hand, the S90D series will see the use of two different panels - either the same 3rd generation QD-OLED panel, without anti-reflection, for the 55'', 65'' and 77'' formats, and a W-OLED panel for 42” and 48” formats (both new in 2024), and 83”.

NEO QLED 8K TVS

Samsung's Neo QLED TV range, based on Mini LED technology, once again promises to impress with a series of new features. The year 2024 places artificial intelligence (AI) at the heart of innovations, seamlessly integrated into Samsung's TV lineup to deliver superior performance.

This lineup is powered by the advanced Neo Quantum 4K AI Gen 2 and NQ8 AI Gen3 processors for the 4K and 8K models, respectively. These processors are the engine behind a revolutionary feature set. They enable significant improvement in upscaling (or upscaling), ensuring that lower resolution content is beautifully transformed to match the native resolution of the display. Additionally, the technology offers enhanced motion tracking for fast movements, making it ideal for capturing the dynamics of sports such as football with unparalleled clarity. Additionally, these TVs benefit from enhanced contrast levels, enriching visual content with increased three-dimensional depth and realism.

In 2024, Samsung's QN900D will revolutionize the perception of 8K television, combining aesthetic elegance and cutting-edge technology. Dubbed the Infinity Air design, the QN900D's mirror mount creates an illusion of levitation, enhancing its visual appeal. At the heart of the device, the advanced NQ8 AI Gen3 processor powers the device, setting new standards for image quality.

One of the major advancements of the QN900D is its superior scaling (or upscaling) capability. Given the current shortage of native 8K content, this feature is crucial, dramatically improving detail, contrast and motion for an unprecedented viewing experience. The QN900D received high praise, earning a five-star rating for its performance.

In addition, the TV has a built-in 6.2.4 speaker system, integrating AI to dynamically track sound objects, thereby enriching the hearing experience. For gamers, the QN900D does not disappoint, offering four HDMI 2.1 ports for a complete and immersive gaming experience. This combination of design, technology and functionality positions the QN900D as a formidable competitor in the premium TV market.

Samsung's more accessible 8K Mini LED model integrates many of the functions of its high-end equivalent, while saving on certain aspects to reduce the cost. It maintains the recently introduced powerful processor but returns to a more classic design and a less robust speaker system.

However, the gaming-optimized setup remains, as does support for Dolby Atmos and HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats.

4K Mini-LED TVs: QN85D and QN90D

4K Neo QLED has long represented the heart of Samsung's offering; a reality that the company wishes to emphasize despite advances in higher ranges. The QN90D model integrates the Neo Quantum 4K AI Gen 2 processor, just like the brand's OLED models. This technology combines Mini LED backlighting with quantum dots, resulting in vibrant colors, enhanced by superior brightness and contrast, all magnified by new Quantum Matrix technology.

The QN90D series outperforms the QN85D series in brightness, contrast, offers finer and more precise backlight control, as well as an improved anti-glare filter. Additionally, the QN90D series is compatible with 4K resolution at 144Hz.

The QN85D model foregoes a few features to offer a more affordable price. It's available in a more limited selection of sizes, sports a slightly thicker design, and is equipped with a less capable 40-watt 2.2 speaker system.

However, it maintains the NQ4 AI Gen2 processor and the four HDMI 2.1 connectors, which remains a positive point.

QLED AND CRYSTAL TVS

Samsung's standard QLED TVs as well as their introductory Crystal UHD range will of course be well represented again this year. We will then find the Q80D and Q60D series in the QLED, as well as the DU8000 series (which will see the introduction of a 98” format) and DU7100. These will be covered in an upcoming article.

NEW FEATURES COMMON TO ALL MODELS

In its 2024 TV range, Samsung demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability, integrating eco-friendly innovations into all models. The company has notably increased the use of recycled materials in its manufacturing process. For example, 50% of the materials used in the construction of TV bodies and stands now come from recycled sources, including plastics for back cases and metals for stands. The legs are designed for screw-free assembly, simplifying installation and minimizing package contents. In addition, the protective packaging inside the boxes increasingly uses recycled polystyrene. A notable feature of all Samsung 2024 TVs is the inclusion of a solar remote control (except the DU7100 series), reflecting a holistic approach to reducing environmental impact.
