“Blood cancer nearly took my life... After the relapse, I was exhausted and had given up hope of recovery—until Dr. Denis-Claude Roy and my family gave me hope again. My life was happy: at work, with my family, and with my partner. All of that came crashing down...”

Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and Fillion

A Story of Family and Hope

The Day Samuel Fillion's Life Began Again

At age 31, Samuel first began to feel extremely tired. He received his diagnosis: aggressive blood cancer. The treatments were grueling. Hope, isolation, waiting… And then, his first remission. But the disease returned. With the support of his doctor at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital and his loved ones, Samuel agreed to a new treatment: an allogeneic stem cell transplant.

Today, Samuel is doing well. He is cured. He wants to give back to those who stood by him with compassion and generosity.

The Fillion Family: The Strength
of a United Family

As soon as the first symptoms appeared, Emmanuelle, Samuel’s sister, sensed that something was wrong. She pushed for further tests. The shock of the diagnosis rocked the entire family. Bernard and Sylvie, the parents, held strong. Day after day, the family remained strong, supported by the care and compassion of the team at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.

When Samuel suffered a relapse, the Fillion family and Dr. Denis-Claude Roy helped him stay hopeful. Today, the Fillion family wants to do their part and encourage donations.

“But the effort paid off. Three months later, I was told I was in remission, it was the happiest day of my life. There was still one last step before I could truly hope for recovery: an autologous stem cell transplant, which also seemed to work!”
