Description

Innovation, softly spoken

BDI's Plume series takes a sculptural approach to modern media storage, combining the warmth of finely crafted furniture with the performance-driven details expected from a BDI cabinet. Rounded hardwood corners, acoustic doors, smart cable management: the result is a piece that feels refined outside and fully capable within. The Plume 8079 is the four-door version of the collection, sized specifically to support TVs up to 85 inches in a footprint suited to larger living spaces and ambitious home theater installations.

Acoustically transparent, IR-friendly doors

The Plume 8079's four soft-close doors are gently concave and wrapped in acoustic mesh combined with speaker grille cloth. This blend lets speaker audio and infrared remote signals pass through freely, while completely concealing the equipment behind a clean, uninterrupted front. The center compartment measures 38.5 inches wide — enough for a large center-channel loudspeaker, or two major components side-by-side (for example a Blu-ray player and a cinema pre-processor).

Passive ventilation and easy access

AV receivers and power amplifiers generate significant heat that can shorten component lifespans if air can't move. The Plume 8079 tackles this with built-in flow-through passive ventilation on the rear and bottom panels, creating a continuous airflow. At the rear, the panels are fully removable for direct access to wiring, components and power outlets — during initial installation as well as future changes. Strategic wire management openings keep cable runs neatly routed.

Flexible, robust interior layout

The main compartments house tempered-glass shelves adjustable in 1.25-inch increments, each rated to hold up to 100 lb of gear. Side compartments: 18.5 × 16 × 16 in interior. Center compartment: 38.5 × 16 × 16 in — nearly double the width of the 8077. The top holds up to 150 lb — more than enough for an 85" TV or a heavy high-end turntable. Total capacity: 9 to 12 A/V components, ideal for a complete home theater. Soft-close hinges are adjustable and concealed levelers under the steel base guarantee a perfectly flat sit.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What's the difference between the Plume 8079 and the Plume 8077?

The main difference is overall width and number of compartments. The Plume 8077 is a three-door cabinet 62 inches wide, designed for TVs up to 70 inches with 6 to 9 components. The Plume 8079 is the full-width four-door version (80 inches), with a center compartment nearly twice as wide (38.5 vs 20.5 in), suited to TVs up to 85 inches and more ambitious installations (9 to 12 components). Pick the 8077 for a standard living room, the 8079 for a dedicated media room or a large living space.

Can I fit a large AV receiver inside this cabinet?

Yes, easily. The side compartments provide interior dimensions of 18.5 in wide by 16 in deep by 16 in tall, while the center compartment is 38.5 in wide — enough for a full-width AV receiver and a Blu-ray player side-by-side. Tempered-glass shelves are rated to hold up to 100 lb each, and the flow-through passive ventilation on the rear and bottom panels prevents amplifiers from overheating.

Can I place a center-channel speaker in the middle compartment?

Yes — it's one of the Plume 8079's main advantages. The center compartment measures 38.5 in wide, 16 in deep and 16 in tall — enough for virtually any center-channel speaker, including large reference-series models. The doors are wrapped in acoustically transparent mesh combined with speaker grille cloth, which lets sound pass through without audible attenuation. Bonus: IR remote signals also pass through the mesh, so you can keep your components hidden and still control them normally.

Does the cabinet require complex assembly?

Initial assembly is required at delivery. The main wood structure is largely pre-built, but you'll need to attach the powder-coated steel base, place the glass shelves at your preferred heights (1.25-inch increments) and adjust the soft-close door hinges. Given the 196 lb (88.9 kg) weight, two-person assistance is strongly recommended.
