9 × 105 W Amplification and 11.4-Channel Processing

The AVR-X3900H amplifies 9 channels at 105 W per channel into 8 ohms (20 Hz-20 kHz, THD 0.08%, two channels driven) and processes up to 11.4 channels in total. An 11.4-channel pre-out lets you add an external power amplifier to drive the two extra channels (for example a 7.4.4 or 5.4.6 configuration). It decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Auro-3D, IMAX Enhanced, and 360 Reality Audio, with Dolby Surround, DTS Neural:X, and Auro-Matic for upmixing non-native sources.

HDMI 2.1 (8K on All 6 Inputs, 4K/120 Hz)

All 6 HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1 and support 8K up to 60 Hz, 4K up to 120 Hz, HDCP 2.3, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, and Dynamic HDR. VRR, ALLM, and QFT are supported for recent consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X). Two HDMI outputs are provided, one of which supports HDMI eARC to receive Dolby Atmos and DTS:X streams from a modern TV's built-in apps.

Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with Dirac Live Compatibility

The AVR-X3900H includes Audyssey MultEQ XT32 with Sub EQ HT (multi-subwoofer calibration) and Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume, measured via the supplied microphone. It is also compatible with the Dirac Live suite: Dirac Live Room Correction (and optionally Dirac Live Bass Control) is activated by purchasing a license from Dirac. Four independent RCA subwoofer outputs allow separate delay, level, and equalization per output.

HEOS Built-In, MM Phono, Zone 2, and Bluetooth Output

On the streaming side, HEOS Built-In gives direct access to Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Amazon Music, Deezer, TuneIn, and Roon; Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth are supported, along with dual-band Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port. A rear-panel MM phono input is included for a turntable. The receiver has a Zone 2 (line-level output) and a Bluetooth output for streaming audio directly to compatible headphones for private listening. Rear connectivity also includes two optical, two coaxial, and five RCA analog inputs.

Common Questions

What's the difference between 9-channel amplification and 11.4-channel processing?

The built-in amplifier drives up to 9 passive speakers directly from the rear binding posts. The processor can handle up to 11.4 channels through the pre-outs: the two extra channels are sent as line-level signals and connect to an external power amplifier (for example, to go from a 7.1.2 to a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos layout).

Does the AVR-X3900H support Dirac Live?

Yes. It is compatible with Dirac Live Room Correction (upgrade via a license purchased separately from Dirac). Once activated, the Dirac license replaces Audyssey MultEQ XT32 for room correction. A Dirac Live Bass Control license may also be offered for multi-subwoofer optimization (subject to Dirac's availability at the time of purchase).

How many subwoofers can be connected, and how independently?

The AVR-X3900H has four independent RCA subwoofer outputs. Each output can carry its own delay, level, and equalization, allowing a multi-subwoofer setup to smooth low-frequency response across the room. Audyssey Sub EQ HT is included for the multi-subwoofer calibration step.

Can I send audio to Bluetooth headphones?

Yes. The receiver includes a Bluetooth output feature that sends audio directly to a compatible Bluetooth headphone for private listening. It is toggled through the on-device menu or the HEOS app.
