Description

Description

A complete HiFi ecosystem in a small chassis

The FiiO AIR AMP integrates network streaming, high-resolution decoding and loudspeaker amplification into a compact 207 × 188 × 42 mm chassis weighing about 930 g. It replaces several separate components in a desktop, bookshelf or living-room system — network player, DAC and stereo amplifier in a single chassis. A 1.1-inch LCD display and two rotary encoder knobs (input selection / menu navigation + volume / standby) provide direct control, with a knob indicator light whose color and brightness are customizable (solid or RGB breathing effect). An infrared remote is included.

Class D TPA3255 amplification with PFFB

Amplification is handled by a Texas Instruments TPA3255 Class D module equipped with a Post-Filter Feedback (PFFB) circuit that stabilizes frequency response against varying loudspeaker impedance (4 to 8 Ω, damping factor of 80). With the included 48 V / 5 A supply, it delivers 2 × 120 W into 4 Ω (THD+N < 1%, SNR ≥ 110 dB, dynamic range ≥ 110 dB). For the most demanding listeners, an optional 48 V / 10 A power supply pushes output up to 2 × 235 W into 4 Ω — enough to drive demanding bookshelf speakers and small-to-medium floorstanding loudspeakers.

ES9020Q DAC, native DSD512

Digital signals are routed through a 16-core XMOS XU316 interface to a dedicated ESS ES9020Q converter. The USB connection natively decodes PCM up to 32-bit / 768 kHz and DSD512. Network inputs and local playback handle PCM up to 32-bit / 384 kHz and DSD256 without downsampling. The high-precision 10-band parametric EQ is available through the FiiO Control app or web interface, with 10 built-in presets and 10 custom presets for precise room correction or loudspeaker-specific tuning.

Roon Ready, AirPlay, QPlay and NAS streaming

The AIR AMP accesses digital libraries via Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) and dual-band 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi. It operates as a Roon Ready endpoint and receives streams via Apple AirPlay and QPlay. For local files, a rear USB Type-A port accepts USB sticks and portable drives, while the FiiO Control app provides direct navigation of music stored on local-network NAS servers. Bluetooth 5.2 with SBC and LDAC codecs for wireless sources. The web interface enables full control from any browser on the local network.

7 input modes and professional connectivity

The chassis accommodates seven operating modes: USB decoding, optical decoding, coaxial decoding, line-in, Bluetooth reception, network streaming and local playback. A HIGH / LOW input sensitivity switch matches the stage to the source output. Ports include 2 × USB Type-C (USB DAC) + 1 × USB Type-A, coaxial and optical digital inputs, and an RCA line input. Speaker outputs use 4 mm banana jacks compatible with bare-wire connection; a 3.5 mm PRE OUT (2.5 Vrms) bypasses the integrated amp to feed an external more powerful amplifier, and a dedicated RCA SW OUT (active across all input modes) enables a 2.1 system.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why choose the FiiO AIR AMP?

The FiiO AIR AMP is the centralized hub for a modern, space-conscious listening station. It eliminates the need for a separate DAC, network streamer and stereo amplifier by combining an XMOS XU316 + ESS ES9020Q conversion stage and 2 × 120 W of Class D TI TPA3255 power. It's the logical choice for listeners who want full digital connectivity in a compact format that comfortably drives bookshelf or small floorstanding loudspeakers.

Can it play high-resolution files from a local network drive?

Yes. When connected to the same wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi network as your NAS server, the AIR AMP accesses local libraries directly through the FiiO Control app. The network processor handles high-resolution formats without compromise: PCM up to 32-bit / 384 kHz and DSD256 natively without downsampling. Over USB, resolution reaches 32-bit / 768 kHz and native DSD512.

Does it support an active subwoofer?

Yes, it features a dedicated RCA SW OUT subwoofer output that remains active across all input modes (4.7 Vrms @ 20 Hz in digital decoding, 5 Vrms @ 20 Hz in line-in). This lets you easily configure a 2.1 system by routing low frequencies to a powered subwoofer while the internal TI TPA3255 amplifier continues to drive the main passive loudspeakers. The FiiO Control app and web interface allow fine-tuning of the crossover frequency and level.

Can I use it as a streaming preamplifier for a more powerful external amplifier?

Yes. The 3.5 mm PRE OUT (2.5 Vrms) allows you to bypass the internal TPA3255 power stage and route the preamplified signal to an external power amplifier of your choice. In this configuration, the AIR AMP becomes a network streamer + DAC + preamplifier with all of its streaming (Roon Ready, AirPlay, QPlay), 10-band PEQ and centralized control functions preserved — handy for upgrading to more demanding speakers without replacing the whole system.
