Description

Description

Retro Design and Aluminum-Alloy Build

The RR-13 draws on classic portable radio design, with a luminous mechanical dial and a gear-driven tuning knob. The chassis uses an aluminum-alloy front and an AG-glass back in a pocket-sized 43.4 × 85.6 × 16.4 mm shell that weighs about 76 g. Two colorways are available: black and silver. Despite the compact size, the unit houses an ultra-thin five-magnet stereo speaker system driven by two independent amplifiers.

Si4831 FM Reception and FiiO DDB AS100 Audio Processing

The FM section uses the Silicon Labs Si4831 professional tuner for sensitivity and stability. A band switch selects between FM1 (87-108 MHz, the standard international band) and FM2 (76-90 MHz, used in Japan and for some regional bands). Audio processing is handled by the FiiO DDB AS100 analog chip, with BASS and 3D sound modes that can be selected from the device. In headphone-amp mode, FiiO quotes a signal-to-noise ratio above 100 dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.008%.

Geared Tuning, Luminous Dial, and Antenna Options

Tuning is done by hand on a knob driven by a gear mechanism, with a mechanical dial and a luminous pointer for low-light use. A built-in internal antenna handles nearby stations. A 3.5 mm external telescopic antenna is supplied and plugs into a dedicated jack for pulling in weaker signals. When wired headphones are connected, the headphone cable also acts as an extended antenna.

Removable 10440 Battery and USB-C Charging

Power comes from a 450 mAh 10440 lithium rechargeable battery that is user-replaceable and includes a protection board. A spare battery can be swapped in to keep listening without waiting for a recharge. FiiO quotes about 7 hours of headphone radio playback and about 4 hours through the internal speakers; in headphone-amp mode alone, runtime is stated at up to 18 hours. A full recharge takes about 2 hours over USB-C, and a sleep timer offers 30- and 60-minute auto-off options.

Common Questions

Why choose this product?

The RR-13 is a stereo portable FM radio with a headphone output and built-in amplification, built around the Silicon Labs Si4831 FM chip and the FiiO DDB AS100 analog audio chip. It pairs a mechanical tuning dial with a five-magnet stereo speaker system and a removable 10440 battery in a pocket-sized aluminum chassis. It suits listeners who want a bit more than a generic pocket receiver from an FM radio.

What is the battery life?

FiiO quotes about 7 hours of headphone radio playback, about 4 hours through the internal speakers, and up to 18 hours in headphone-amp mode with no FM reception. The 10440 battery is user-replaceable and takes about 2 hours to fully charge over USB-C, and a spare can be swapped in mid-session.

Can the RR-13 be used without the external antenna?

Yes. A built-in internal antenna handles the strongest nearby FM stations. The supplied 3.5 mm external telescopic antenna plugs in to raise sensitivity for weaker signals, and plugging in wired headphones adds antenna length as well.

Which FM bands does the RR-13 cover?

Two bands can be selected on the device: FM1 covers 87 to 108 MHz — the standard FM band used across North America and Europe — and FM2 covers 76 to 90 MHz, used in Japan and for some regional bands.
