Top-of-Prestige Stylus with a Four-Piece OTL Cantilever

The Stylus Gold4 is the stylus at the Gold level — the top of Grado's current Prestige series. Handcrafted in Brooklyn, it uses a Grado-selected elliptical diamond for consistent contact with the record groove walls, a four-piece OTL (Open Transmission Line) cantilever — one stage more than the Black4, Green4, Red4, Blue4, and Silver4 styli — and a brass mounting bracket. Grado states a usable tracking force of 1 to 2 g for the Prestige series, set precisely on the turntable. Cartridge weight is about 6 g and compliance is 20 μm/mN, suited to tonearms with moderate effective mass (roughly 8 to 15 g).

 

Prestige Series Cross-Compatibility and Replacement

All current Grado Prestige series styli are interchangeable with each other and with every Prestige cartridge body, so the Stylus Gold4 can replace a worn Gold4 stylus, or move a lower-tier body (Black4, Green4, Red4, Blue4, or Silver4) up to Gold level — without changing the cartridge and without re-aligning geometry on the tonearm. Replacement is done by hand: the stylus assembly pulls off the body and a new one presses back into place. Grado suggests replacing a worn stylus after roughly 800 to 1,000 hours of playback.
