Kaleidescape Strato K - Black

Description

The reference movie player for premium home theater

The Kaleidescape Strato K is engineered for installations where video and audio quality allow no compromise. Where streaming services heavily compress the image to fit within internet bandwidth, the Strato K downloads bit-for-bit copies of movies directly from the Kaleidescape Movie Store. The result: every pixel, every audio transient and every HDR nuance reaches your projector, OLED display or cinema processor with its original integrity intact. It is the device that justifies the investment in a high-end system.

8K, 4K Cinematic and Dolby Vision playback

The Strato K is Kaleidescape's new 8K-capable generation. It plays Movie Store titles in 8K (HDR10, SDR), 4K Cinematic (Kaleidescape's high-bitrate Dolby Vision format), 4K Dolby Vision / HDR10 / SDR, HD and SD. HDMI 2.1 up to 24 Gbps, HDCP 2.3 copy protection, 4:4:4 8-12-bit chroma up to 2160p60, automatic 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 (CinemaScape) aspect-ratio handling. The user interface runs in 4K, movie playback reaches up to 8K.

Lossless immersive audio, all the way to Atmos

Over HDMI, the Strato K passes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio — all in their native lossless formats — to your cinema processor or AV receiver. Additional formats: Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround, Dolby MAT PCM and PCM up to 7.1 channels 96 kHz / 24-bit. A coaxial RCA and TOSLINK optical output provide 2-channel PCM up to 96 kHz / 24-bit for simpler setups.

Full home automation integration

The Strato K speaks the native language of custom installations. The Kaleidescape Control Protocol over Ethernet is supported by Josh.ai, Crestron, Control4, Savant and the Kaleidescape apps; the device also talks directly to Lutron RA3 and HomeWorks. Precise metadata (film start/end, credits, native aspect ratio) allows seamless automation of motorized shades, lighting dim and screen masking. Additional control options: front-panel IR, IR extender input (1/8 in mini plug), HDMI CEC.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why choose the Kaleidescape Strato K?

The Strato K is the reference movie player for premium home theater. It is the only source that delivers picture and sound identical to the studio master, without the massive compression imposed by Netflix, Apple TV+ or Amazon Prime. Supports 8K HDR10, 4K Cinematic in Dolby Vision, lossless Dolby Atmos and DTS:X over HDMI 2.1. Works standalone thanks to its 960 GB SSD, or as part of a multi-zone system with a Terra server. Native control by every major home automation platform on the market.

What does "uncompressed" mean at Kaleidescape?

Streaming services heavily compress video files to fit within average internet bandwidth — often 15 to 25 Mbps for 4K. A 4K UHD Blu-ray track uses 60 to 100 Mbps. Kaleidescape downloads bit-for-bit copies that match the UHD Blu-ray experience or exceed it (4K Cinematic). Compression artifacts (color banding, loss of shadow detail, "muddy" action scenes) disappear, and Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks arrive with their full dynamic range intact.

Can the Strato K work standalone, without a Terra server?

Yes. The Strato K includes a 960 GB internal SSD that stores about 7 movies in 4K Cinematic or 10 movies in standard 4K — more than enough for standalone use in a secondary room, a cottage or a first installation. You can add a Terra Prime server later to expand the library and centralize storage across multiple players in the home.
