Kaleidescape Terra Prime Full-Size 120TB - Grey

Description

The high-capacity server of the Terra Prime range

The Kaleidescape Terra Prime Full-Size 120TB is the hard-drive (HDD) server of the Terra Prime range, engineered for collectors who want to maximize capacity while keeping the Prime line's premium features. It locally stores your complete library downloaded from the Kaleidescape Movie Store and feeds one or more Strato K or Strato V players over the local network. Unlike the Mini and Compact SSD variants (flash-based, faster but more expensive per TB), the HDD Full Size offers the best capacity-to-price ratio for large libraries.

120 TB across four removable drives

The chassis houses 4 removable hard drives — a key advantage over other Terra models: each drive can be replaced individually in case of failure, without shipping the unit for service. Total 120 TB capacity holds: approximately 1,128 movies in 8K or 4K Cinematic (~9.4 movies/TB), 1,980 movies in standard 4K (~16.5 movies/TB), 3,240 movies in HD, or up to 18,000 movies in SD. Multiple servers can also be combined on the network to expand the library even further.

2.5 Gigabit Ethernet — 8-minute downloads

The 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port (recommended; 1 Gigabit minimum) fully leverages modern home networks and the fastest fiber-optic plans. The result: a new high-bitrate 4K release downloads in as little as 8 minutes, making a last-minute acquisition watchable almost immediately. Wired Ethernet is required (mandatory to guarantee bandwidth); Wi-Fi is not supported for AV distribution.

Up to 10 simultaneous 4K playbacks

The Terra Prime Full-Size is sized to sustain up to 10 simultaneous playbacks of Kaleidescape high-bitrate 4K movies to Strato players throughout the home. A primary cinema projects a 4K Cinematic blockbuster while a living room plays an HD concert, a bedroom starts a download and an office watches a documentary — with no buffering, no drop in quality. Twice the stream capacity of the Compact Terra; ideal for large residences.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What's the difference between Terra Prime Full-Size, Compact SSD, and Mini?

All three share the same Terra Prime platform (2.5 GbE Ethernet, reserved USB 3.0), but target different uses:

• Mini (8 TB SSD): compact silent model (no fan), 25 simultaneous playbacks, 4-minute 4K download, ideal starter.
• Compact SSD (246 TB SSD): record SSD capacity, 25 simultaneous playbacks, 4-minute downloads, 1U half-width format.
• Full Size (120 TB HDD, this model): massive HDD capacity (lower cost/TB), 10 simultaneous playbacks, 8-minute downloads, individually replaceable drives.

Can I use this server alone to watch movies?

No. The Terra Prime is strictly a network storage server: it doesn't decode video and has no HDMI output. To play movies on your TV or projector, it must be paired with at least one Kaleidescape player — Strato K (new-generation 8K) or Strato V. The server stores and sends the data; the player handles real-time audio-video decoding and delivers the HDMI signal.

Are the internal drives user-replaceable?

Yes — a key advantage over the standard Compact Terra (integrated drive). The Terra Prime Full-Size houses 4 removable hard drives that can be replaced individually in case of failure. Replacement must be done with Kaleidescape-certified drives (via your authorized dealer) to maintain the reliability of the proprietary operating system and preserve the integrity of the storage array.
