Dedicated Stand Designed by KEF for the R3 Meta

The KEF S3 Floor Stand is the official stand designed by KEF specifically for the R3 Meta. Unlike generic stands, the top plate features a mounting system that bolts directly into the base of the R3 Meta to form a mechanically unified assembly. The stand height was dictated by KEF's UK engineering team to position the Uni-Q array at the ideal ear height for a seated listener. Backwards-compatible with the previous R3 generation.

Construction and Cable Management

Rigid extruded aluminium structure with hollow central pillar that can be filled with inert material (kiln-dried sand or steel shot) to increase overall mass, lower the center of gravity, and damp internal resonances. An integrated cable management channel in the column conceals the speaker wire for a clean visual profile. The plinth is equipped with adjustable floor spikes (with protective discs for wooden floors included).

Why choose the KEF S3 over a third-party stand?

It is the official stand designed by KEF for the R3 Meta. The top plate and mounting points are sized specifically for the R3 Meta's base, creating a mechanically unified assembly — a direct coupling that generic stands cannot offer. The height (54.2 cm) is calibrated to place the R3 Meta's Uni-Q array at the ear height of a seated listener. The fillable hollow pillar and the cable management channel complete the package.

Compatible with the previous KEF R3 (non-Meta)?

Yes, the KEF S3 is fully backwards compatible with the previous non-Meta KEF R3 loudspeaker. The base profile is preserved from one generation to the next. However, it is not compatible with the other R Series models (R5, R7, R11 Meta), which are floorstanding speakers with integrated Plinth bases.

Should I fill the pillar with sand?

Strongly recommended to achieve the best acoustic performance. The S3's hollow central pillar is designed to be filled with kiln-dried sand or steel shot. This ballast significantly increases the total mass of the stand, lowers the center of gravity, and damps internal metallic resonances. Result: tighter bass and more precise vocal articulation. Sand and filler material sold separately.
