Description

Description

The Union of Preamplifier and Network Streamer

The McIntosh CS7500 unites two components typically found separately in a high-end audio system into a single chassis: a traditional McIntosh preamplifier and an audiophile network streamer. The goal is not just integration: it is to eliminate the compromises of a multi-box digital-to-analog chain while preserving the freedom to choose the power amplifier that suits the rest of the system. Sensitive audio circuitry is isolated from the networking hardware to maintain a vanishingly low noise floor across all inputs.

Native Streaming: Qobuz, Spotify, TIDAL Connect and Roon Ready

The CS7500 is Roon Ready and Roon Tested certified, and natively supports Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect (including Spotify Lossless), and TIDAL Connect (including TIDAL Max). The Connect mode makes a practical difference: the audio stream goes directly from the service to the device, bypassing the phone (which becomes a simple remote), avoiding additional compression and delivering the highest available quality level. Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, and Bluetooth (with AAC, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive codecs) round out the platform for music stored on personal devices.

Quad Balanced 8-Channel 32-Bit DAC

At the heart of the CS7500 is an audiophile-grade digital-to-analog converter: Quad Balanced 8-channel 32-bit architecture up to 384 kHz, delivering expansive dynamic range with extremely low distortion. The USB input accepts PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz, DSD up to DSD512, and DXD at 352.8/384 kHz — the highest native formats in current audiophile production. Coaxial and optical inputs handle 24-bit/192 kHz.

13 Inputs, Including a Phono Stage and an HDMI ARC Input

The rear panel receives six analog inputs — 2 XLR balanced, 3 RCA unbalanced, and 1 phono input configurable as Moving Coil or Moving Magnet (selectable gain from 40 to 64 dB) — and seven digital inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 MCT for a McIntosh SACD transport, 1 USB, and 1 HDMI ARC for direct TV connection (multi-channel Dolby and DTS formats are converted to high-quality stereo). Home Theater PassThru mode allows integration into a home theater system without compromising the CS7500's audiophile role in stereo.

Flexible Outputs with Subwoofer Option + HXD® Headphone Output

Outputs combine two pairs of XLR variable, two pairs of RCA variable, and one pair of RCA fixed. The second set of variable outputs (XLR and RCA) can be dedicated to one or two subwoofers — useful for a system seeking bass reinforcement or driving full-range towers with independent subwoofers. The 1/4" headphone output uses HXD® (Headphone Crossfeed Director) technology, which recreates a more natural spatial image on headphones.

McIntosh Aesthetic Signature; Hand-Assembled in Binghamton, NY

The CS7500 wears the McIntosh visual codes: black glass front panel, two signature blue meters, illuminated logo, precision rotary knobs, and machined aluminum end caps. The chassis is two-tone: lower part in mirror-polished stainless steel, upper part in hairline-brushed black titanium stainless steel. Hand-assembled at McIntosh Laboratory in Binghamton, NY — in operation since 1949.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the McIntosh CS7500?

The CS7500 is the new-generation McIntosh streaming preamplifier. It combines a traditional McIntosh preamplifier and an audiophile network streamer in a single unit with native support for Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, and Roon Ready. Combined with a Quad Balanced 8-channel 32-bit DAC and 13 inputs (6 analog + 7 digital including HDMI ARC), it serves as the complete control center of a high-fidelity system — all that remains is to choose the power amplifier and speakers.

Which streaming services are supported natively?

The CS7500 is Roon Ready and Roon Tested certified, and natively supports Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect (with Spotify Lossless), and TIDAL Connect (with TIDAL Max). The Connect mode allows playback from the services directly through their native apps (Qobuz, Spotify, TIDAL), without going through a proprietary McIntosh app: the phone becomes a simple remote and the stream goes directly from the service to the CS7500, preserving the highest available quality. Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, and Bluetooth (AAC, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive) round out the platform for locally stored music.

Can I connect my TV directly?

Yes, via the HDMI ARC input. This input receives audio from an ARC-compatible TV and passes it through the CS7500's audiophile DAC before sending it to the amplifier and speakers. Multi-channel Dolby and DTS formats are converted to high-quality stereo — a significant upgrade over built-in TV speakers or a traditional soundbar. The HDMI ARC input receives audio from the TV only; it does not pass video.

Can it integrate with a home theater?

Yes, thanks to the Home Theater PassThru mode. This configuration allows the left and right front channels from an external surround processor to pass through the CS7500's analog stage at unity gain (bypassing the volume control). The main speakers and their dedicated amplifier can then serve both stereo listening (where the CS7500 handles everything) and a multi-channel system for movies (where the external processor takes over).

Which amplifiers pair well with the CS7500?

The flexible output stage — with two pairs of XLR variable, two pairs of RCA variable, and one pair of RCA fixed — accommodates any power amplifier in the McIntosh range, from high-current solid-state models to tube amplifiers. The output sensitivity of 8 V RMS (unbalanced) or 16 V RMS (balanced) is compatible with most high-end amplifiers. The second set of variable outputs can be dedicated to one or two subwoofers.
