The Only Integrated in the McIntosh Turntable Lineup

The McIntosh MTI100 is a one-of-a-kind product in the Precision Turntable range — the only integrated turntable in the lineup, alongside the MT2, MT5, and MT10 separates. Where those three require a phono preamp, a line-stage preamp, a power amplifier, and the cabling that goes with them, the MTI100 gathers that whole chain into a single chassis: turntable, shielded phono preamp, vacuum tube line-stage preamp, 80 W-per-channel Class D power amplifier (4 Ω) / 50 W (8 Ω), HD Bluetooth receiver, coax and optical digital inputs, subwoofer output, front-panel headphone jack, and stereo speaker outputs on the rear panel. "So much more than just a turntable," per the official brochure — the listener adds a pair of speakers and the system is complete, no other box needed. This is the McIntosh choice when wall or shelf space doesn't allow for a separates chain.

Factory-Fitted Sumiko Olympia MM Cartridge, Shielded Phono Preamp

The MTI100 ships with the Sumiko Olympia pre-mounted — a moving magnet (MM) cartridge from Sumiko's Oyster series, described by McIntosh in the brochure as having "an upgraded stylus and cantilever assembly that allow for more dynamic punch and improved frequency response" versus the entry Oyster cartridges. Standard MM output: it feeds the MTI100's built-in phono preamp, which is housed in a custom shielding box to keep electromagnetic interference out of the low-level analog signal — an important detail in a chassis that also carries a Class D amplifier and a Bluetooth receiver. Phono signal-to-noise ratio measured at 75 dB. The MTI100 is therefore plug-and-play: cartridge, alignment, and phono stage are all preset and integrated at the factory.

Machined Aluminum Tonearm on Cardan Sapphire/Tungsten Bearings

The MTI100 tonearm is a machined aluminum tube on a Cardan bearing arrangement — the two-axis pivot that lets the arm follow the groove independently in both planes. Ball bearings on the lateral axis (horizontal arm movement across the record) and sapphire and tungsten pivots on the vertical axis (up-and-down motion to follow record warp). This combination — ball bearings for lateral velocity, sapphire/tungsten for vertical sensitivity — pairs smoothness and rigidity to the axis that needs it most. The arm is factory-preset for the included Sumiko Olympia cartridge: tracking force, anti-skate, overhang, and arm height all leave the same Binghamton workshop where the turntable is assembled. Out of the box, the MTI100 is ready to play.

Vacuum Tube Preamp + 80 W/Channel Class D Amplifier

The signal path first passes through a vacuum tube line-stage preamplifier — the classic McIntosh tonal color, the same family of stage as the tube stereo preamps (C8, C22 Mk V, C2800) — then drives a Class D amplifier section. Class D lets McIntosh deliver 80 W per channel into 4 Ω and 50 W per channel into 8 Ω in a compact chassis that also has to hold the turntable itself, without the bulk or heat of a linear amplifier of the same power. Damping factor greater than 200 into 8 Ω and greater than 100 into 4 Ω — the amplifier keeps mechanical control of the speaker cone, particularly in the bass. Frequency response +0 / -0.7 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Amplifier total harmonic distortion ≤0.2% from 250 mW to half rated power, ≤0.5% from half to full rated power; preamplifier ≤0.2%. Signal-to-noise ratio 93 dB at the amplifier, 90 dB high level.

HD Bluetooth, Coax, Optical, Subwoofer Output: Modern Connectivity

The MTI100 marries the vinyl source to the modern source. Bluetooth "High Definition" input: the MTI100 receives wirelessly from a phone, tablet, or computer for local library or streaming service playback — a dedicated antenna is visible on the rear panel. For wired digital sources, one coaxial and one optical input accept the digital audio output of a television, a dedicated network streamer, or a CD/SACD player like the McIntosh MCD350 that the official brochure recommends. On the analog side: one unbalanced RCA auxiliary input and one unbalanced RCA output (bridged to the amplifier input), plus a mono subwoofer output for adding a powered bass module, and a 1/4-inch headphone jack on the front panel. Stereo speaker outputs on gold-plated binding posts on the rear panel — the MTI100 drives a pair of passive speakers directly, no external amplifier.

Common Questions

Where does the MTI100 sit in the McIntosh turntable lineup?

The MTI100 is the only Integrated Turntable in the Precision Turntable lineup — the rest of the range is separates (MT2, MT5, MT10). The difference is architectural: the MTI100 carries turntable, phono preamp, tube line-stage preamp, Class D 80 W power amplifier, HD Bluetooth receiver, and digital inputs in a single chassis — the listener adds a pair of speakers and the system is complete. The MT2 (Sumiko Moonstone MM, 33/45), MT5 (Sumiko Amethyst MM, magnetic bearing, 33/45/78), and MT10 (audiophile MC cartridge, 33/45/78) all assume that an integrated amplifier or a separates system is already in place. The MTI100 is the choice when wall or shelf space doesn't allow for a separates chain.

Can I connect digital sources to the MTI100?

Yes. The rear panel includes one coaxial S/PDIF input and one optical Toslink input — you can plug the digital audio output of a television, a dedicated network streamer, or a CD/SACD player like the McIntosh MCD350 (recommended by the official brochure) directly in. A "High Definition" Bluetooth receiver with a dedicated antenna is also built in for wireless playback from a phone, tablet, or computer. On the analog side, one unbalanced RCA auxiliary input accepts any line-level source (DAT deck, external phono preamp for a second turntable, etc.), and one unbalanced RCA output bridged to the amplifier input allows external processing to be inserted if needed.

Is the phono cartridge included? Can I replace it later?

Yes, the MTI100 ships with the Sumiko Olympia Moving Magnet (MM) cartridge already mounted, aligned, and factory-tested. The built-in phono preamp is calibrated for this cartridge. The cartridge uses a standard half-inch (1/2") mount — you can therefore replace it later with any standard MM cartridge. Note: the built-in phono stage is MM only — to switch to a low-output moving coil (MC) cartridge, you would need to add an external MC phono preamp between the tonearm and the MTI100 AUX input. High-output MC cartridges compatible with MM inputs remain directly pluggable.

Does the MTI100 play vintage 78 rpm records?

No. The MTI100 supports 33-1/3 and 45 rpm only. For vintage 78 rpm records (shellac, pre-1948), look to the MT5 or MT10 in the Precision Turntable range — both models handle the three standard speeds (33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm). Important note for 78 rpm records: a dedicated 78 rpm stylus (approximately 3 mil radius, versus 0.7 mil for microgroove LPs) delivers the best results, and the Sumiko Olympia included on the MTI100 is in any case calibrated for modern 33 and 45 rpm microgroove records.
