Key features

Pro-Ject Connect it Phono DS balanced phono cable, 1.23 m long, with a Mini XLR connector on one end and a full-size XLR connector on the other. It is intended to link a turntable with a balanced Mini XLR (Pro-Ject True Balanced) output to a phono preamplifier that has standard XLR inputs. The conductors are 99.99% oxygen-free copper (2 × 0.2 mm²) with a stated capacitance of 90 pF over the full length, in a cellular polyethylene dielectric. The shield is a helical OFC copper wrap backed by a conductive TPE sub-jacket.

Description

Balanced Mini XLR to XLR Link Between Turntable and Phono Stage

This cable is the dedicated link between a turntable with a balanced Mini XLR output (Pro-Ject True Balanced) and a phono preamplifier with standard XLR inputs, so the balanced signal path stays intact end-to-end without changing preamplifiers. Balanced transmission rejects common-mode noise — hum and interference picked up along the cable run — which matters most for the very low-level signals from a moving-coil (MC) cartridge or a Pro-Ject Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge.

Low-Capacitance Construction and Shielding

The cable uses two 99.99% OFC copper conductors of 0.2 mm² in a cellular polyethylene dielectric; stated capacitance is 90 pF over the 1.23 m length — a low value that helps preserve high-frequency response from the cartridge. The shield is a helical OFC copper wrap paired with a conductive TPE sub-jacket for protection against electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference. Both the Mini XLR (turntable end) and XLR (preamp end) connectors use silver-plated copper contacts.

Common Questions

Why choose this product?

The Pro-Ject Connect it Phono DS Mini XLR to XLR cable keeps the True Balanced signal path intact between a turntable with a Mini XLR output and a phono preamplifier that has standard XLR inputs — no need to change preamplifiers to stay balanced end-to-end. It uses 99.99% OFC copper, a cellular polyethylene dielectric, low capacitance (90 pF over 1.23 m), and a helical OFC shield.

What kind of cartridge do I need to take advantage of the balanced connection?

A moving-coil (MC) cartridge, or a cartridge wired for balanced end-to-end operation such as the Pro-Ject Pick it PRO Balanced. A standard moving-magnet (MM) cartridge with its ground tied to the tonearm does not provide the separate positive and negative polarities needed for a true balanced link.

Why silver-plated contacts instead of gold?

Among common metals, silver has the highest electrical conductivity (slightly higher than copper and higher than gold), which lowers contact resistance. Silver can tarnish in air over time, but the resulting silver oxide remains conductive — this is a cosmetic change and does not affect audio performance.
