The Planar 6 RS Edition is built upon a foundation of ultra-lightweight engineering. Rather than relying on heavy mass to dampen vibrations, Rega utilizes a Tancast 8 aerospace-grade polyurethane foam core. This core is sandwiched between a high-pressure laminate and a unique brushed aluminium skin, creating a plinth that is incredibly rigid yet remarkably light. This design philosophy prevents the energy absorption and storage that often colors the sound of heavier turntables, allowing the music to remain agile and transparent.

Engineering & Performance

The "RS" designation signifies a substantial leap in mechanical performance. This edition features the RB880 tonearm, a component typically found on much higher-priced models. The arm uses an advanced vertical bearing housing and a stainless steel balance weight, meticulously designed to minimize resonance while maximizing tracking accuracy. To ensure perfect rotation, the 24V low-noise motor is driven by a CNC-machined twin drive pulley. By utilizing two Reference EBLT drive belts instead of one, the system provides greater grip and rotational consistency, virtually eliminating wow and flutter.

The Nd9 Moving Magnet Experience

Standard on the RS Edition is the Nd9, Rega’s flagship moving magnet cartridge. The Nd9 is engineered with a Boron cantilever—a high-stiffness material usually reserved for expensive moving coil designs—and a Fine Line nude diamond stylus. This combination allows the cartridge to track the most complex passages of a record with effortless precision. The result is a soundstage characterized by deep, controlled bass, a natural midrange, and high-frequency extension that reveals the finest nuances of a recording.

Connectivity & Integration

Controlling the motor is the Neo MK2 PSU, an external power supply that uses a sophisticated digital signal processor to generate a clean, stable waveform. This unit allows the user to switch between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM at the push of a button and offers fine-tuning adjustments for perfect pitch. The audio signal is carried via low-capacitance phono cables, ensuring that the high-resolution output of the Nd9 cartridge reaches the phono stage without degradation or interference.
