SofaBaton U3 - Black

Description

Unifying IR, Bluetooth and RF signals

Managing a complex home theater often requires juggling multiple communication protocols. The SofaBaton U3 consolidates traditional infrared (IR) commands for classic televisions and receivers, Bluetooth control for modern streaming boxes, and radio frequency learning (RF 433/315 MHz) for home automation gear and motorized projector screens. This consolidation allows up to 30 distinct devices to be mapped into a single centralized interface, backed by a database of over 6,000 brands and 500,000 devices — eliminating the clutter of factory remotes on the coffee table.

Simultaneous BLE Bluetooth connectivity

A common limitation of smart universal remotes is the frustrating switching delay when alternating between multiple Bluetooth devices. The SofaBaton U3 directly addresses this bottleneck by maintaining simultaneous BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) connections with up to three devices. Transitioning from a streaming box to a compatible gaming console happens instantaneously, bypassing the usual pairing or reconnection wait times and ensuring a consistently fluid navigation experience. A classic single-connection Bluetooth mode remains available for backward compatibility.

Color LCD display and one-touch macros

The upper section of the remote chassis is anchored by a 2.4-inch color LCD screen that illuminates automatically when picked up thanks to a responsive wake-on-lift sensor. This interface serves as the primary command center for customizable macros. With a single button press, the remote can execute a complete sequence: turning on the projector, waking the media player, selecting the right HDMI input on the A/V receiver and routing volume commands to the amplifier. Delays between each command in a macro are fully configurable.

Advanced Air Mouse and voice control

For compatible Bluetooth streaming boxes, the remote deploys advanced navigation capabilities that extend well beyond standard directional-pad inputs. The Air Mouse function transforms the remote into a wireless pointer for intuitive on-screen cursor control, while a dedicated voice button triggers the built-in Google Assistant. These additions minimize the need to retrieve factory remotes when searching for specific media. Note: voice control works with Google Assistant boxes, but does not extend to closed ecosystems like Apple TV (Siri) or Fire TV (Alexa).

Extended battery life and IR repeater compatibility

Power is supplied by an internal 1,200 mAh rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, engineered to deliver up to three weeks of operation per charge depending on usage. Recharging is handled via the included USB-C cable in approximately three hours for a full cycle. For home theater environments where A/V equipment is concealed in a closed cabinet or dedicated equipment closet, the SofaBaton U3 is compatible with the SofaBaton R1 IR Repeater, sold separately, which routes IR commands to devices out of line of sight.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can it control devices hidden inside a closed cabinet?

No, not as a standalone unit for devices relying on infrared (IR), since IR signals require a direct line of sight to the equipment. The solution is the SofaBaton R1 IR Repeater, sold separately, which receives the U3's IR commands and relays them to devices concealed within media consoles or equipment closets through wired IR mini-emitters.

What's the difference between the U3 and the flagship X2?

The U3 is the flagship of SofaBaton's traditional universal remote range: 2.4-inch color LCD, 30 devices, IR + BLE + RF, Air Mouse and Google Assistant. The SofaBaton X2 is a more advanced system that adds a central hub with 360° IR emitters and extended Wi-Fi connectivity: the remote no longer requires a direct line of sight to IR devices, and additional integrations are possible (advanced automations, deeper home voice assistant integration, etc.). The U3 fits most home theaters perfectly; the X2 targets more sophisticated installations with hidden equipment and deeper smart-home integration.

Is initial setup complex?

No. Setup is done via the SofaBaton app (iOS and Android), which guides you step by step. Simply select the brand and model of each device from the database (6,000+ brands), or point the original remote at the U3 to use the IR learning mode for custom codes. Macros are then created by drag-and-drop in the app, with fine control over delays between each command.
