The Lumina I is the most compact model in the entire Sonus faber passive range: 28 cm tall, 14.8 cm wide, 4.4 kg per speaker. It is the format that makes the house's Italian craftsmanship accessible in setups where a larger speaker would be out of the question — a desk, a bedroom, a compact living room, a home office, or as a surround channel in a full Lumina home cinema. Hand-built in the Sonus faber workshops in Vicenza, Italy.

29 mm DAD™ Tweeter Shared with the Sonetto Collection

The tweeter is a 29 mm DAD™ (Damped Apex Dome) silk dome with a hand-coated Kurtmueller diaphragm, ferrite motor, and visco-elastic baffle decoupling. It is identical to the one used in the other Lumina models and in the Sonetto collection. In other words: the same signature in the highs — smooth, airy, non-fatiguing — as significantly larger and more expensive models.

120 mm Midwoofer Specific to the Lumina I

The 120 mm midwoofer was designed specifically for the Lumina I — a deliberate choice for a model of this size, rather than reusing a larger driver from another model. It uses a custom-made basket and a diaphragm composed of cellulose pulp blended with other natural fibers, in the Natural Sound philosophy proper to Sonus faber. It covers the entire midrange and bass down to 65 Hz, with a single crossover at 2,000 Hz to the tweeter.

4 Nickel-Plated Terminals, Rubber Decoupling Pads

The Lumina I features four nickel-plated binding posts (Hi and Mid-Low pairs), which allow bi-wiring or bi-amplification — a flexibility uncommon at this level of the range and at this format. Decoupling from the mounting surface is provided by included rubber pads. Squared cabinet with wood veneer (semi- or high-gloss depending on variant) and a black leather top panel; chrome rings around the drivers.

Can it be placed on a desk?

Yes, without difficulty. The bass-reflex port fires forward (instead of the rear), which makes it noticeably less sensitive to placement than most bookshelf loudspeakers. It works well on a desk, in a bookshelf, on a low cabinet, or near a back wall. For serious near-field stereo listening, spacing the two speakers 60 to 120 cm apart yields the best results.

Can it be used in a home cinema?

Yes, particularly well as surround channels (rear or height) in a Lumina multichannel system based on the Lumina V or III as fronts and the Lumina CI as center. Its tonal signature is perfectly aligned with the rest of the collection since it shares the same tweeter and the same midrange family. The compact format also facilitates wall mounting with appropriate brackets.

What is the difference from the Lumina II?

The Lumina II is the next model up: 150 mm midwoofer (vs 120 mm on the I), 55 Hz extension (vs 65 Hz), 86 dB sensitivity (vs 84 dB), and absorbs up to 150 W (vs 100 W). The cabinet is also larger: 30.4 × 18.0 × 26.3 cm and 5.8 kg vs 28.0 × 14.8 × 21.3 cm and 4.4 kg. The tweeter, crossover concept, and front-firing port are identical. If your space is truly limited, the Lumina I is the right choice; if you have a bit more room, the Lumina II reaches deeper and plays louder.
