Cinema in three speakers rather than one bar

The Sony BRAVIA Theatre Trio (HT-A8) takes the opposite approach to the classic soundbar: instead of cramming all speakers into a single cabinet, it splits them across three separate enclosures — an ultra-slim center speaker (589 × 64 × 165 mm) that slips under the TV, and two wireless front speakers (160 × 337 × 165 mm) placed on either side of the screen. This geometry recreates the acoustic layout of a real cinema, with true stereo separation and a soundstage width no single-box design can reach.

9 speaker units and 405 W of S-Master amplification

The system deploys 9 speaker units in a 3.0.2 configuration (3 per enclosure), driven by a 9-channel S-Master digital amplifier delivering 405 W total (135 W per unit: left, center, right). Each channel has its own dedicated amplification, eliminating the power-sharing compromises of single-box configurations. The height channels (the .2 in 3.0.2) fire toward the ceiling to create Dolby Atmos overhead effects.

Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, IMAX Enhanced decoded natively

The internal processor natively decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, IMAX Enhanced, as well as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio and LPCM up to 7.1 channels. Sony's proprietary 360 Spatial Sound Mapping goes further: it synthesizes up to 24 phantom speakers around the listener based on a cinema layout. The result: an enveloping sound bubble that far exceeds the physical footprint of the three enclosures.

HDMI 2.1 for PS5: 4K/120 Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision

The HDMI input on the center speaker supports every HDMI 2.1 feature essential for the current console generation: 4K at 120 Hz, VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), DSC (Display Stream Compression), and full HDR pass-through including Dolby Vision, HLG and SBTM. A connected PlayStation 5 keeps its maximum frame rate and full HDR range, while the soundbar extracts the high-resolution audio stream before passing the video on to the TV.

Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect

On the network side: Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) for stable high-resolution streaming, Bluetooth 6.0 with SBC, AAC and — crucially — LDAC codecs for high-resolution streaming from a compatible phone. The Trio also acts as a network player: Apple AirPlay 2 from an iPhone/Mac and Spotify Connect to use the Spotify app as a remote. DSEE Ultimate automatically upscales compressed files toward near-hi-res quality.

Auto calibration, BRAVIA integration and modular expansion

A USB-C calibration microphone is included: connected to the center speaker, it automatically measures room acoustics and calibrates 360 Spatial Sound Mapping to the actual layout. With a compatible Sony BRAVIA TV, the Trio unlocks Acoustic Center Sync (dialogue comes directly from the screen), Voice Zoom 3 and BRAVIA Quick Settings. The system expands with one or two wireless subwoofers (SA-SW3 or SA-SW5) and wireless rear speakers (SA-RS3S or SA-RS5) for a full 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 configuration. Yes. A wall-mount bracket and a template are included in the box for the center speaker, specifically designed for the Trio. The shallow depth (165 mm) and light weight (3.2 kg) make wall installation easy under any wall-mounted TV. The front speakers ship with feet for classic placement on a console or shelf.
