The Cambridge Audio L/R M is the mid-tier model of the new L/R active-speaker range, positioned between the compact L/R S (no Wi-Fi) and the larger flagship L/R X. The L/R M is the first step in the range to integrate the StreamMagic Gen 4 network streaming platform, making it a true all-in-one solution: it replaces an integrated amplifier, a network streamer, a phono preamplifier, and the associated cables in a two-speaker set standing just 263 mm tall.

28 mm Torus Tweeter and 2.5-Way System

The 28 mm Torus tweeter is a proprietary technology designed by Cambridge Audio specifically for the L/R range. It is flanked by two 4-inch (100 mm) mid-bass drivers that handle the midrange and upper bass in a 2.5-way configuration. The integrated Class D amplification delivers 300 W total (150 W per side), precisely calibrated for these drivers — a key acoustic advantage of an active system compared to a passive-speakers-plus-amplifier combination.

Dual Side-Mounted Force-Canceling Passive Radiators

To reach 40 Hz extension despite the compact cabinet, the engineering team incorporated two 4.75-inch passive radiators mounted back-to-back on the sides of each speaker. This force-canceling configuration offers two benefits: mechanical vibrations generated by one radiator's motion are canceled by the opposing force of the other (the cabinet remains acoustically inert), and total radiating surface increases without requiring a massive cabinet. What is the difference between the L/R M and the L/R X?

The L/R X is the flagship of the range: larger cabinet, bigger drivers, higher power and deeper bass extension. Choose the L/R M for a medium-to-large room with placement on a console or shelf; the L/R X for large rooms requiring more output and extension.

Can I connect my turntable directly?

Yes. The primary speaker features a moving magnet (MM) phono preamplifier designed by Cambridge Audio. You plug the RCA cables from your MM-equipped turntable straight into the rear of the L/R M, without needing to buy a separate phono stage. For a moving coil (MC) cartridge, you would need to add an external MC preamplifier (for example the Cambridge Audio Alva Duo).
