The Rega Planar 8 is a high-performance turntable engineered to extract every nuance from your vinyl collection. Inspired by Rega’s ultimate Naiad turntable, the Planar 8 combines ultra-light Tancast 8 foam core plinth construction with high-pressure laminate (HPL) to achieve exceptional rigidity and minimal resonance. Its super flywheel effect triple-layer glass platter and precision RB880 tonearm work together to deliver detailed, accurate, and natural sound. Supplied with the Neo PSU, the Planar 8 provides electronic speed selection, advanced anti-vibration control, and fine electronic speed adjustment for maximum precision.

RB880 precision tonearm
The RB880 tonearm features a low-mass aluminum and stainless-steel vertical bearing assembly for improved stability and friction-free movement. The preloaded zero-tolerance bearings are adjusted to less than 0.001 mm, eliminating unwanted play. A redesigned, low-capacitance phono cable with locking phono plugs ensures the cleanest possible signal transfer. A thinner stainless-steel balance weight allows for precise adjustment and compatibility with a range of cartridges.

Ultra-light, rigid plinth with double brace technology
The Planar 8’s plinth combines Tancast 8 foam with HPL laminates, reinforced by phenolic resin double braces mounted at critical points. This “stressed beam” assembly minimizes energy absorption and unwanted resonance while keeping the overall mass low. The lightweight construction reduces noise transfer from motor or bearing vibrations, enhancing the clarity of your listening experience.

Super flywheel effect triple-layer glass platter
The Planar 8’s three-piece laminated glass platter concentrates mass at the outer rim for maximum rotational stability, while the inner platter remains light to reduce stress on the main bearing. This design ensures consistent speed, stiffness, and precision for superior vinyl playback.

Motor and Neo PSU
The 24 V low-vibration synchronous motor is hand-tuned and coupled to a custom Neo PSU, offering electronic speed selection, anti-vibration control, and fine adjustment via an RP10 DSP crystal generator. This system generates a stable 24 V AC signal with less than 0.15% distortion, unaffected by mains voltage fluctuations, ensuring precise platter rotation.

Flexible cartridge options
The Planar 8 is supplied either without a cartridge, or with a factory-mounted Rega Nd7, Ania Pro, or Apheta 3 cartridge, allowing you to select the model that best suits your listening preferences.
