The Sonetto I G2 is the smallest bookshelf model in the new-generation Sonetto range: 37.7 cm tall, 20 cm wide, 8.4 kg per speaker. It gives access to the full Sonus faber acoustic vocabulary — lute shape, DAD tweeter, leather top panel, Intono technology — in a format that fits smaller rooms, a desk, a bookshelf, or a secondary listening space. It also works very well as a surround channel in a high-end home cinema alongside the floorstanders in the same collection. Hand-built in the Sonus faber workshops in Vicenza, Italy.

1.1" DAD™ Arrow Point Tweeter and 5" Midwoofer

The Damped Apex Dome (DAD) tweeter, a 1.1" (28 mm) Arrow Point with copper shorting ring, is identical to the one used in the Sonetto II G2 and extends response up to 40 kHz. Damping at the apex of the silk dome eliminates the anti-phase behavior of standard soft domes at high excursion. The 5" midwoofer uses a sandwich cone and an asymmetric floral-pattern rubber surround that breaks the driver's circular modes to improve linearity. Aluminum demodulation ring on the motor to reduce distortion. Single crossover point at 2,100 Hz.

Front-Firing Bass Reflex Port: Flexible Placement

The Sonetto I G2 uses a front-firing bass-reflex port, like the Sonetto II G2. This architectural choice changes everything in real-world use: near-wall placement, corner placement, or placement in a low cabinet all work without the loss of bass definition that affects rear-ported designs. Combined with the anti-resonance concrete bottom, it delivers a measured bass extension of 52 Hz — remarkable for a cabinet of this size.

Lute-Shaped Cabinet with Open-Pore Wood Finish

The cabinet retains the signature lute shape that eliminates internal parallel walls. The open-pore wood finish preserves the natural grain and tactile texture, in keeping with the Sonus faber Natural Sound philosophy. The top panel is wrapped in leather stamped with the Sonus faber logo.

What does Intono technology do?

Intono technology is a structural element that sits between the bass-reflex duct and the internal acoustic chamber of the cabinet. Its role is to eliminate the spurious frequencies and distortions generated inside the enclosure during driver operation. Unique to the Sonetto I and II in the G2 collection, it produces an acoustically quieter cabinet — particularly audible in near-field listening.

Which amplifier should I choose?

The Sonetto I G2 is an easy load to drive (86 dB sensitivity, 4 Ω nominal). Sonus faber recommends a range of 30 to 150 W per channel, which makes it compatible with mid-range integrated amps and with many low- to medium-power tube amplifiers. A quality integrated 30 W is enough to showcase it.

What is the difference from the Sonetto II G2?

The Sonetto II G2 is larger: bigger cabinet, 6.5" midwoofer (versus 5" on the I G2), extension down to 42 Hz (versus 52 Hz), 87 dB sensitivity (versus 86 dB), and can absorb up to 200 W (versus 150 W). The Sonetto I G2, however, remains easier to place in a tight space and shares the same tweeter technology, the same Intono technology, and the same front-firing port concept.

Is a dedicated stand necessary?

Strongly recommended. The dedicated Sonetto Stands (compatible with Sonetto I and II, sold separately) are built from aluminum, concrete, and iron steel, and bolt directly into the base of the speaker to create a single mechanically unified assembly. They place the tweeter at optimal ear height (68.7 cm tall) and maximize vibration control. A solid bookshelf or dense cabinet is an acceptable alternative if the space does not accommodate the dedicated stand.
